Um…since we’re practicing diligently for the battles, we probably won’t take a break and continue to practice. For Chuseok, I will eat rice cakes with the members who are my 2nd family and spend it with them…Haha

[NEWS] 130916 The Unique Experience of Gu Joonhwe Receives Attention

The members of Team B on YG’s survival program ‘WIN’, Gu Joonhwe, Song Yoonhyung, and Kim Donghyuk and their unusual experiences are receiving much attention.

Team B’s maknae Gu Joonhwe is only barely 17 years old this year but possesses a set of powerful vocal potential. He auditioned for K-POP STAR when he was in only 9th grade, and was featured on ‘STAR KING’ with his imitation of Michael Jackson when he was only 13 years old. His past broadcast experiences have caused many people to be surprised.

Also Team B’s maknae, Kim Donghyuk was the head of the student body, and member Song Yoonhyung originated as an actor. Both went through the YG audition process, and passed, proving their abilities. Tablo who also helps to mentor the YG trainees, added on to their workload to improve their abilities and skills. Team B’s golden trio of Bobby, B.I, and Kim Jinhwan was only added to Team B later.

Song Min Ho & B.I’s Special Resolution for “Showdown Battle” with JYP trainees, “So Excited. Feels like Beating Whole JYP”

Leader of Team A and Team B and rapper Song Min Ho and B.I (Kim Han Bin) of YG Entertainment’s survival show “WHO IS NEXT : WIN” (“WIN”) formed a team to compete with JYP trainees, drawing keen attention from K-Pop fans. 

In “WIN” episode 4 aired on the 13 (Fri.) this month, YG and JYP competed for the title as the best, in “showdown battle” between their trainees, which is a long-time tradition of the two companies. The battle created a very exciting scene for viewers of the show. 

The battle included three areas, rap, dance, and singing, among which rap battle caught viewers’ eyes most. The players for the dance and signing competition were selected by video test and on-site contest on all of Team A and Team B members, but for the first-round rap competition, four best rappers from both Team A and B formed a team, to fight JYP players, which gave a special excitement to viewers.

Team A’s Lee Seung Hoon suggested Song Min Ho, B.I (Kim Han Bin), and Bobby (Kim Ji Won) to team up with him for the rap battle and the leader of each team Song Min Ho and B.I showed a special resolution for victory. All other “WIN” members were surprised, worried, and nervous about the showdown, but Song Min Ho and B.I were only excited about the battle, armed with a strong confidence. 

Song Min Ho and B.I were more concerned that they might not be selected as the player for the battle, rather than about the battle with JYP itself. To Yang Hyun Suk’s remark “You go and beat them up”, they smiled and answered “It feels like we are beating the whole JYP. We are 100% sure that we will win in rap. We are so excited.” This was a demonstration of their confidence that they are leading rappers of each team and they could prove the result of their long and hard work as trainees of YG in the showdown battle with JYP.

JYP’s rapper Mark, Yunghyun, and Jackson have overseas backgrounds in LA, Hong Kong, and Toronto respectively, so they tried to get the start on YG trainees with confidence, saying “We can win the swag competition, because it is so American.” However, four “WIN” members who competed with them were not discouraged and even enjoyed the rival’s music.

B.I of the “WIN” rap team made a mistake in lyrics but his free-style rap was so perfect that nobody noticed it. His talented rap made rivals all stand up and enjoy.

JYP’s head producer JY Park highly praised “WIN” team, saying, “The performance was so perfect, there was no flaw in the delivery of lyrics, performance on the floor, and the content of lyrics.” He added, “B.I’s swagger and Lee Seung Hoon’s dominance on the stage are wonderful. I especially like Bobby’s performance, where he showed unique rap with a rather lazy beat.”

YG’s head producer Yang Hyun Suk also complimented their performance with a smile on his face, saying, “It is such a tremendous talent which makes even rivals enjoy it. I think YG has won the rap competition.”

Meanwhile, “WIN” show, which has been drawing much attention not only within Korea but also from overseas, will be aired in more than 10 Asian countries starting from the 17 this month, on STAR TV cable’s subsidiary Channel V and CJ E&M’s Southeast Asian subsidiary Channel M. In China, the show will be aired exclusively on Youku, the biggest video-streaming site in the country. In Korea, viewers can enjoy replay and behind story of the show on portal site Daum.

Kim Jin Woo of Team A, “Finally Shedding Tears” over Mistake in Lyrics, in Tense Battle with JYP Trainees

Kim Jin Woo, the eldest trainee among the members of YG Entertainment (YG)’s survival show ‘WHO IS NEXT : WIN (“WIN”) eventually shed tears, after making a mistake in lyrics in a “showdown battle” with JYP trainees.

In “WIN” episode 4 which was aired on Sep. 13 (Fri.), YG trainees and JYP trainees who are to soon make debut as boy band had a showdown to keep their pride as artist, which excited many K-pop fans. In the battle, Kim Jin Woo, the eldest member of “WIN” Team A, who was assigned as the leading vocalist of the YG team, got too nervous and made a mistake in lyrics, 

The battle between YG and JYP had three areas of competition, including first-round rap, second-round dance, and third-round singing, and the fierce competition caught eyes and ears of many viewers.

 “WIN” members of the YG team had had to compete among themselves in a tournament, to be selected as player for the battle with JYP trainees. The fact that they could not even run for the showdown with JYP if they are not selected in the tournament strung “WIN” members’ nerves to the maximum.

YG’s head producer Yang Hyun Suk (“Yang Hyun Suk”) made teams which he had selected beforehand compete in the first and second rounds, but for the final third round, he selected the players by on-site vote.

Team A’s vocalists Kang Seung Yoon, Nam Tae Hyun, and Kim Jin Woo were selected for the final round and Kim Jin Woo came under a big difficulty, because he had only a short period of time for practice because he had to change his selection of a song for competition after a sharp criticism on his performance just a day before. He usually needs a long period of time for practice.

Eventually, Team A’s eldest member Kim Jin Woo failed to sing because he was so nervous and forgot the lyrics. Kang Seung Yoon quickly came into Kim’s place to continue the performance and he covered up the mistake successfully by replacing Kim even though the part was not his own, to be praised by JY Park. Nam Tae Hyun was also complimented for his full talent. 

Notably, JYP Entertainment’s head producer JY Park gave Kim Jin Woo words of condolence saying, “I know that you are more nervous now than when you stand before tens of thousands of audience after you make debut as a singer. I hope this experience will give you a precious lesson.” Kim Jin Woo answered, “I’m so sorry”, shedding tears from his limpid eyes, making viewers feel sorry for him.

Yang Hyun Suk scolded Kim Jin Woo, stating, “I’m so angry that you made a mistake in singing JY Park’s song before JY Park.” However, he never forgot to encourage Kim by saying, “The mistake may be a good opportunity for Kim Jin Woo to experience the world of professional artists. It is just a part of process to make you a genuine professional.”
