[NEWS] 130823 YG’s new boy group survival program WIN kicks off today: the 3 points of focus
YG Entertainment’s ‘WHO IS NEXT: WIN’, a program to determine the formation of its newest boy group will be aired for the first time today, August 23.
The real survival battle program WIN, which divides YG’s 11 long-term trainees into Teams A and B for a fierce battle, finally unveils itself on Mnet at 10p.m. and tvN at 11:20 tonight.
On August 20 at the Production Sneak Preview of WIN, YG’s founder YANG HYUN SUK personally revealed the 11 members who will appear on the show. The Sneak Preview has been attracting much attention since then, and Team A and Team B became the two top search words on Internet portal sites.
YG’s NEXT boy group, the first one in 8 years
‘WIN’, as it is the program that determines the formation of the first boy group in 8 years since BIGBANG’s debut, is arousing much attention amongst the public and musicians. The recently revealed video clip shows Park Jin Young, Yoon Jong Shin, Psy, BigBang and 2NE1 explaining the harsh and cold rules of the upcoming program. Yoon Jong Shin commented, “YG is always very careful in choosing new artists or groups. They know what real ‘survival’ is from their hands-on experience, so I am expecting some real tough ones to make a debut.” Founder Yang once said, “I want to produce a team that can gain popularity across the border,” hinting his ambition for YG’s NEXT group.
A 100% real battle for debut between 2 families under the same roof
The biggest difference between ‘WIN’ and other talent show programs is that YG’s upcoming television show will demonstrate two YG-belonging teams fight each other, and the result depends completely on the viewers. On Episode 1, which will be aired on August 23, the members will tell the audience how they felt when they heard that they would be split into two groups. They had been training together as friends and colleagues under the same roof called YG. The 10-episode program will make the two teams fight each other 3 times in total, and the viewers can be part of the group-production process from the very beginning. They will be able to participate through online, mobile and live text message voting system, which makes the show even more real.
A show that contains unique and interesting stories
KANG SEUNG YOON, the ex-contestant of Mnet’s Superstar K2, and K-Pop Star’s LEE SEUNG HOON. These two are already well known to the public even before ‘WIN’ is aired. The lineup of the show already hints that the episodes will be full of unique and interesting stories of the individual member. KANG SEUNG YOON, who works extremely hard to become a good dancer after becoming a trainee since becoming popular on Superstar K, and B.I., the then 14-year-old rapper for MC Mong’s ‘Indian Boy’ who now is the leader of Team B, and KIM JIN WOO, who left home to become a trainee at YG before any other contestants—these are few of the 11 life stories that will be told on the program. The stories all point to the same direction: becoming the real ‘WINNER.’
The program will be aired overseas beginning from September 17, through channel V (part of the cable channels of START TV) and channel M (the Southeast Asian channel of CJ E&M) in 10 countries. In China, the largest video-sharing website Youku will exclusively air the program. On Daum portal site, fans will be able to enjoy replays and behind-the-scenes of the show.
[NEWS] 130816 ‘WIN’ Program to Air on Mnet + tvN on August 23
YG’s founder YANG HYUN SUK to reveal the 11 members for the first time at Production Sneak Preview on August 20
The survival program that determines the formation of YG’s first new boy group since BIGBANG 7 years ago will be aired on August 23 at 10 p.m. on Mnet and tvN simultaneously. The program is called ‘WIN’, each letter stands for ‘WHO IS NEXT?’
‘WIN Survival’ will have 2 teams: Group A consists 5 members including the ex-contestant of Superstar K2 and the recently debuted KANG SEUNG YOON, and the ex-contestant of K-Pop Star, LEE SEUNG HOON. The average age is 20 years old. Group B consists of 6 members with an average age of 17 years old, and among them is the then 12-year-old boy rapper B.I who featured in MC Mong’s ‘Indian Boy’, and Koo Jun-hee, another ex-contestant of K-Pop Star. The two groups are in for a fierce battle. It is a real survival show. The 10-episode show is gaining much attention as it will be aired at evening prime time on Friday simultaneously on Mnet and tvN, which are known for their extremely popular shows ‘Superstar K’ and ‘Grandpa over Flowers’.
YG’s long-year trainees will be divided into Groups A and B for a real battle, and the result depends solely on the viewers, which is different to other audition programs. The show will keep everyone on their toes as YG themselves do not know who the winner is going to be.
The winning group will be given the chance to make a debut immediately after the program finishes, under the group name WINNER. The losing team will not be able to make a debut for an indefinite amount of time. The show will reflect the cold and harsh reality of the professional music world.
A few weeks back, Group A with KANG SEUNG YOON aroused much attention when they released the choreography video. On August 20 (Tues), ‘WIN’ will have its production sneak preview at Seoul Yeouido’s Conrad Hotel. At the preview, YG Entertainment’s founder Yang Hyun Suk will be revealing the 11 members of Groups A and B. He will also lay further details and explain the intentions of this program.
The program itself is expected to draw attention not only from South Korea but from abroad as well because this is the first boy group by YG since BIGBANG’s debut 7 years ago.
Many are interested in YG’s new boy group since the entertainment agency already boasts a remarkable performance with its existing boy group BIGBANG, who, apart from being the top boy group in South Korea, were the first South Korean artists to hold World Tour joined by 800,000 fans. In November, in just one year since the big tour, at Japan’s largest Dome tour, BIGBANG will be joined by 730,000 fans. BIGBANG positioned themselves as an icon of Asia, performing on a scale and securing a market and a fan base that even overseas stars cannot easily achieve.
BIGBANG members will be overlooking the fellow trainees from YG battling on WIN program.
G-DRAGON will be using his upcoming introduction song ‘LET’S SHAKE THE WORLD‘ in his solo album as the title song for ‘WIN’ program, while he and TAEYANG, who spent the longest time training at YG, will be involved in the battle of Groups A and B to help them produce songs and give advice.
Many are keen to see what kind of changes will occur in the South Korean music market with the birth of WIN’s final winner, and if they could be as excellent as BIGBANG.
WIN will be unveiled on August 23 at 10 p.m., simultaneously on Mnet and tvN. Many prominent companies will be involved in the program as well. The show will include subtitle services for overseas fans including Japanese and Chinese. The large-scale project will be aired to the international fans all at the same time.
Further details will be announced by YG’s CEO YANG HYUN-SUK at the production sneak preview of WIN on August 20, Tuesday.
